CBD Oil Dose and Drop Calculator

Turn the milligrams your doctor prescribed into the number of drops from your bottle. This tool does not recommend a dose.

1. How many mg of CBD are in the bottle?

It’s printed on the bottle or the box.

2. How many ml is the bottle?

In milligrams (mg).

Is your dropper different?

The calculation assumes one drop is about 0.05 ml (about 20 drops per ml). Drop size varies from bottle to bottle; for the most accurate measurement, use an oral syringe marked in ml.

For 25 mg

5 drops

Each drop contains about 5 mg of CBD.

If you measure with a syringe: 0.25 ml

Your doctor decides the dose.

This tool only shows how many drops that is. The amount on the label isn’t always accurate.

What's on this page?

How to calculate it by hand

  1. Divide the mg in the bottle by the bottle’s ml. That is the CBD in 1 ml.
  2. Divide that by 20. That is the CBD in 1 drop (1 ml is about 20 drops).
  3. Divide the mg your doctor prescribed by the CBD in 1 drop. The result is the number of drops.

Example table: 10 ml bottle

1000 mg100 mg5 mg5 drops

The amount on the label isn’t always accurate: in one study, only 31% of products sold online matched their label.

Frequently asked questions

How many mg are in 1 drop of CBD oil?

It depends on the bottle. Example: if a 10 ml bottle contains 1000 mg of CBD, each drop contains about 5 mg of CBD. Use the calculator above for your own bottle.

How many drops of CBD oil should I use?

Your doctor decides this. The dose varies with the condition, the person and the other medicines you take. Your doctor prescribes the dose in mg; this page shows how many drops that dose is from your bottle.

How do I calculate a CBD oil dose?

Three pieces of information are enough: how many mg of CBD are in the bottle, how many ml the bottle holds, and the mg your doctor prescribed. The calculator uses these to work out how many drops that is.

What should I do if the bottle shows a percentage (%)?

If it says 10%, there are about 100 mg of CBD in 1 ml. Enter this number in the "percentage" section of the calculator. The amount on the label may not always be accurate; in one study, only 31% of products sold online matched their label.

Why is a syringe recommended instead of drops?

Drop size varies from bottle to bottle. A syringe marked in ml measures the same amount every time. The approved CBD medicine is also given with a graduated syringe.

Should CBD oil be taken on an empty stomach or with food?

When it is taken with food, especially a fatty meal, the body absorbs much more CBD. Take it the way your doctor tells you, and the same way every day.
